"The Bold Fold" takes SDSU

SAN DIEGO — Whether you’re looking for a savory sandwich or a sweet treat to make your day, Bruxië has waffle sandwiches to satisfy every craving. After traveling to Belgium for business, Dean Simon, co-founder of Bruxië, was inspired to create homemade waffles that reminded him of his travels. Ten years after his travels, Simon co-founded Bruxië in California.

Waffle sandwiches?

Bruxië, which opened this summer on College Avenue, is steps away from the SDSU dorms and accepts student meal plans. The restaurant, located near the pedestrian bridge on campus, is the only Bruxië location in San Diego. Their menu includes a variety of sweet and savory sandwiches served on an airy-Belgian waffle.

Any waffle, any time

Bruxië serves delectable waffle sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Their menu is comprised of 12 "savory sandwiches" and six "sweet treats." Any Bruxië sandwich can be made a combo by pairing it it with their signature waffle fries, soup, salad or fruit.

For those that appreciate the simplicity of a plain waffle, you're in luck. Bruxië serves a "Brussels Waffle" with maple syrup, butter and your choice of powdered or cinnamon sugar.

Chocolate lovers will go bananas

I think of chocolate as its own food group. If you're anything like me, you were drawn in by the first sweet selection: Nutella and Bananas. This chocolatey waffle sandwich will not disappoint. The light Belgian waffle has just the slightest crunch which pairs perfectly with the smooth Nutella and fresh banana slices. For only $5.95 you will get a sandwich big enough for two — but don't feel obligated to share.
